What are modifiers and artifacts in Hull Rupture?
Official launch messaging treats modifiers as part of the same progression layer as modules and defenses: they can improve modules, change how they work, and create new synergies while you build production chains and survive waves (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026).
Modifiers specifically are upgrades installed in individual ship modules. You can purchase them in Shops or obtain them through narrative events, but Konfa notes that each source draws from a largely different pool—some shop modifiers never appear in events, while most event modifiers cannot be purchased at all (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026). Modifiers are among the rewards players plan galaxy routes around, alongside shops and special stars (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026).
Artifacts are separate run rewards emphasized in combat and economy design posts. You can collect artifacts that focus on improving your economy and then invest in expensive turrets, or artifacts that turn cheap turrets into stronger weapons—much still depends on roguelike randomness, but the devs stress that bad luck alone should not doom a run if you adapt (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026). The Sep 14, 2026 demo update added new artifacts and modifiers, reworked some existing ones to also affect turrets, and nerfed the Cheat Code artifact as part of making tower defense on the hull the main defense layer (major demo update, Sep 14, 2026).

For how stars, shops, and unpredictable narrative stops fit between waves, see galaxy routes and random events.
How do shops and loot boxes relate to modifiers?
Between waves, the post-battle shop described in the Sep 14, 2026 demo update sells themed loot boxes (modules or turrets) instead of only single kits. Modules can drop with modifiers already installed, and choosing a module box versus a turret box is the main way to steer toward production or defense (major demo update, Sep 14, 2026).
The Sep 25, 2026 demo patch adjusted randomization in the shop and Despot’s Chamber so you are more likely to see module kits you have not encountered yet in the current run and less likely to see kits that dropped recently (Demo Patch v0.10.12, Sep 25, 2026). Themed kit containers remain central to balance; Konfa is not removing them for retail (same patch notes).
The Despot’s Chamber produces random module kits—slower, but free—with output scaling by how many humans work there; unwanted kits can be sold in the post-battle shop (major demo update, Sep 14, 2026). Chamber adjacency buffs for neighbors are covered in the Despot’s Chamber module page.

What named modifier and artifact examples do official posts give?
Konfa has not published a full modifier or artifact encyclopedia. The table below lists every named or clearly described example found in Steam announcements as of Nov 5, 2026.
| Named example | What the source says | Source | Demo or retail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mushroom modifier (Mineral Generator) | Adds mushrooms to the Mineral Generator; significantly increases Mineral output while you have fewer than 10 units of Mystic Goo—may push you to abandon Goo production | Devlog #3 (Aug 14, 2026) | Stated in pre-launch devlog text (timing of retail parity not published) |
| Eyes modifier (Reproducer) | Giving the Reproducer the Eyes modifier lets all Beam turrets apply the Fragility debuff | Major demo update, Sep 14, 2026 | Demo update; retail behavior not re-documented in Nov posts |
| Cheat Code artifact | Nerfed as part of weakening unit-based ship defense so turrets stay primary | Major demo update, Sep 14, 2026 | Demo balance note; retail numbers not published |
| Junji Ito–inspired event reward | A favorite narrative event (inspired by Junji Ito manga) can reward an “awesome modifier for the Mystic Goo Generator”—name not spoiled in the post | Devlog #3 | Event/modifier name not published |
| Great Old One route example | Example route: visit the Great Old One for its cursed modifier, with a market stop for Mystic Goo | Devlog #3 | Qualitative route example only |
| Combat-focused modifiers (direction) | Full release plans many more modifiers and artifacts that affect combat directly, especially turrets | Steam Next Fest follow-up (in NEWS after Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026) | Directional; individual names not published |
Everything else—Spikes, full Microchips modifier behavior, complete artifact lists, numeric thresholds beyond the mushroom/Mystic Goo line—is not published in the official announcement corpus used for this page.
How do artifacts, modifiers, and module layout interact?
The economy-focused devlog in Steam news states that artifacts and modifiers can create adjacency synergies, letting experienced players build very efficient production layouts (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026). Certain modules buff adjacent structures—Despot’s Chamber improves neighboring module efficiency (same post).
Devlog #4 (Oct 22, 2026) compares example ship layouts: one with more adjacent modules so artifact adjacency mechanics work better and humans walk shorter distances; another prioritizes longer alien routes and firing angles (Devlog #4, Oct 22, 2026). That ties modifiers and artifacts to hull construction and turret defense planning rather than isolated pick-ups.

What changed for artifacts when the demo closed?
The pre-launch post (Nov 2, 2026) is the authoritative demo-to-retail list for artifacts:
- Artifacts must be unlocked again in the full game.
- The demo did not include final unlock conditions, so demo artifact unlocks could not transfer.
- Artifact icons and names changed; an icon tied to one demo artifact may belong to a different artifact at retail.
Only completed tutorial and unlocked Trade Mode carry over from the demo (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026). For launch modes and difficulty framing, see ships, modes, and difficulty and release and platforms.
Konfa also planned clearer UI for how artifacts, modifiers, and modules affect production—showing active bonuses and production impact (Steam Next Fest follow-up in NEWS)—but per-modifier numbers remain not published in announcements.
What is confirmed vs not published?
| Topic | Status |
|---|---|
| Modifiers install on individual modules; shop vs event pools differ | Confirmed (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026) |
| Loot boxes can drop modules with modifiers pre-installed | Confirmed for demo shop rework (Sep 14, 2026) |
| Mushroom / Eyes / Cheat Code examples | Confirmed only as in table above |
| Full modifier and artifact roster | Not published |
| Exact Fragility numbers, Cheat Code before/after values | Not published |
| Whether every demo modifier name unchanged at retail | Not published (icons/names changed per Nov 2 post) |
