FAQ
How do you lose a run in Hull Rupture?
What is Classic Mode?
Does combat pause the economy?
What carries over from the demo?
Where do aliens try to go on your ship?
What should a new player understand before the first wave?
Hull Rupture is a base-management, tower-defense roguelite about keeping a spaceship moving while alien waves attack (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026). You play as Despot, a tyrannical AI; the official pitch is blunt: keep the ship moving, fight waves, and do not fail Despot—if aliens reduce Despot to 0 HP, the run ends (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026; store overview, checked Nov 5, 2026).
Retail launch offers three starting ships, six modes, and four difficulty settings. You begin with one ship and Classic Mode, where you must survive through 20 alien waves; more ships and modes unlock through progression (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026).

What is the core loop during a Classic run?
Each run is a balancing act between growth and survival (About the Game, Steam news). Alien boarding parties attack while you expand modules, run production chains, and gather resources (About the Game).
Official dev commentary frames the usual tension: invest in production and expansion, or spend heavily on defenses before the next wave—with no fixed answer for “enough” defense until the hull starts rupturing (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026). Human losses are acceptable; Despot losses are not (same post).
Between waves you choose a route through the galaxy for events, challenges, shops, and resources. Some paths are safer, others more profitable—what you need and how desperate you are usually decides (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026). For route types and trade-offs (fuel vs speed, guarded stars at higher difficulty), see the dedicated galaxy routes guide.

Which economy pillars do the developers name explicitly?
Devlog #1 (May 23, 2026) lists what you are constantly balancing (Steam news, economy section):
- Energy consumption
- Fuel production
- Available workforce
- Ship weight (mass from modules slows travel and increases engine/fuel needs)
- Defensive needs
Travel speed depends on engine count and level and total ship mass—more expansion means a heavier, slower ship (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026). Combat recipes consume resources; stronger defenses need more numerous and rare materials (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026).
Info Mode shows per-minute income for each resource at your current production rate—not a forecast of caps or chained shortages (major demo update, Sep 14, 2026). Because income can depend on other changing resources, treat it as a speedometer, not a guarantee (same post).

How do modules, turrets, and the Airlock fit together?
You build and upgrade interconnected modules that produce resources, humans, and defense units; modifiers can change how modules work and create synergies (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026). Hull Construction expands the ship with shaped blocks; placement sets where modules can go and which route aliens take toward the airlock (Pre-launch post, Nov 2, 2026). Details sit in the hull construction guide.
Combat design goal: if the ship is prepared, you can ignore the battle while defenses fight; production chains remain the demanding system (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026). Turrets first, meat shields second—tower defense on the hull is the main focus; Airlock units are the last line (major demo update, Sep 14, 2026). See turret defense for drop pods, lanes, and moving turrets.
Workforce runs production and can be assigned to defense roles or processing; the humans and staffing guide covers meatshield/biofuel wording and Bioreactor automation from official posts.
What should you prioritize before early waves?
Official sources describe principles, not a scripted turn-one build:
- Keep the ship moving—Earth is gone; stopping ends humanity’s last ride (launch post, Nov 4, 2026).
- Plan production under pressure—the game pushes efficient chains while waves, events, and limited resources constrain you (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026).
- Expand with consequences—overbuilding early can leave you short on energy to run modules or fuel for engines (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026; Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026).
- Shape defense with layout—long hull routes spread drop pods; internal corridors add lanes and choke points (Devlog #2, Jun 18, 2026; Devlog #4, Oct 22, 2026).
- Use the galaxy map deliberately—short-term goals between battles; modifiers and shops often drive route choice (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026).
After battles, retail uses a themed post-battle shop (loot boxes for modules or turrets) rather than only single-kit purchases described in older demo notes (major demo update, Sep 14, 2026). Despot’s Chamber produces free random module kits faster when more humans work there (same post).

Shipyards and star types still appear on the map—for example, screenshots reference upgrading structure at a shipyard (store screenshot above). Higher difficulties add guarded locations with extra waves that do not count toward the 20 Classic waves (Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026; not in demo).

What is confirmed vs not published for beginners?
| Topic | Status |
|---|---|
| Classic = 20 waves; Despot 0 HP ends run | Confirmed (Pre-launch post) |
| Economy pillars (energy, fuel, workforce, mass, defense) | Confirmed (Devlog #1, May 23, 2026; Devlog #3, Aug 14, 2026) |
| Exact wave-by-wave build order | Not published |
| Numeric costs for first turret/module | Not published |
| Full list of six modes at retail | Partially confirmed (names beyond Classic/Trade mostly in future devlogs) |
